Use the Home Screen

The Home screen is your main dashboard in Moneyscope.

After setup, this is the first place you land. It gives you a quick view of your finances for the selected month and helps you move to the areas you use most often, including Budget, Transactions, and Accounts.

What you can do from Home

From the Home screen, you can:

  • see how much money is available or missing for the month
  • check your income and expenses
  • review recent activity
  • open Budget, Transactions, and Accounts
  • continue setup tasks if anything is still incomplete

Home changes with your budget and month

The Home screen is not static.

What you see depends on:

  • the active budget
  • the selected month
  • whether you are using Budget Mode or Track Expenses Mode
  • whether you have added transactions, loans, investments, or other data yet

For example:

  • if you switch months, the numbers and charts update
  • if you have no transactions yet, some charts and lists stay hidden
  • if you have loan accounts, a loans card can appear
  • if you have investment accounts, an investments card can appear

Understanding “Available” and “Missing”

One of the most noticeable values on the Home screen is the large amount at the top.

It can show one of these labels:

  • Available when your budget has money left or is balanced
  • Missing when your budget is underfunded for the selected month

In simple terms:

  • Available means you still have money ready to assign or use in your budget
  • Missing means you have planned more than the money currently available for that month

If the amount is negative, Moneyscope highlights it as Missing so it is easier to spot.

Why your Home screen may look different

It is normal for your Home screen to look different from another user’s screen or from older screenshots.

Moneyscope shows different states depending on where you are in your setup and budgeting journey. Common examples include:

First-time setup state

If you have not made a budget decision yet, you may see:

  • Create Your First Budget
  • Continue Without a Budget
  • a Setup checklist banner

Budget created, but not planned yet

If your budget exists but you have not assigned money to categories yet, you may see:

  • Plan Your Budget [oai_citation:18‡home-widgets.md]

Track Expenses Mode

If you chose to continue without budgeting, Home keeps showing your financial activity, but budget-specific planning widgets may be reduced or hidden. You can still track spending and start budgeting later.

More data over time

As you add transactions and accounts, Home can begin showing more sections, such as:

  • daily spending overview
  • latest transactions
  • scheduled transaction reminders
  • loans summary
  • investments summary

Common sections you may see

SectionDescription
Income and Expense cardsShow your total income and spending for the selected month. These cards stay visible even when the totals are 0.
Latest TransactionsShows your most recent activity and includes a Show all link to open the full Transactions screen.
Daily Spending OverviewIf you have transactions in the selected month, Moneyscope can show a chart of how your spending changes day by day.
Setup ChecklistIf you still have important setup steps left, Moneyscope may show a checklist banner to help you finish them.

What to do if you are just getting started

If your Home screen still looks empty, that usually means you simply need more setup or activity.

A good next step is to:

  1. finish your first budget setup
  2. add your first transaction
  3. decide whether you want to use full budgeting or track expenses first
  4. return to Home to see your dashboard update
