Add Your First Transaction

Transactions are how you record what happens to your money in Moneyscope.

You can add a transaction any time by selecting the + button in the bottom navigation. This opens the transaction form, where you can choose whether you want to record spending, income, or a transfer between your own accounts.

The 3 transaction types

Before adding a transaction, choose the type that matches what happened.

TypeWhen to useExamplesWhat it does
OutflowMoney leaves one of your accounts because you spent it.groceries, rent, coffee, fuel, subscriptionsDecreases the account balance; requires a category; counts toward spending in your budget.
InflowMoney comes into one of your accounts.salary, freelance payment, refund, gift receivedIncreases the account balance; requires a category; helps track income.
TransferMoney moves between your own accounts.checking to savings, paying a credit card from checking, moving money into an investment accountMoves money out of one account and into another; does not use a category; does not count as spending or income in your budget.

Tip: If you are paying your credit card from another one of your own accounts, use Transfer, not Outflow.

Important things to know

Expense transactions work only from budget accounts

If you are working with a non-budget, loan, saving, or investment account, Moneyscope restricts expense entry and may switch you to Inflow instead. Budget accounts support all three transaction types.

Transfers cannot use the same account twice

For a transfer, the From account and To account must be different.

Categories are required for spending and income

If you choose Outflow or Inflow, you must select a category before saving.
